From Eveleth MN, never lost a HS games and holds most scoring records, University of MN, holds most scoring records and only number retired, 3X All American, 1956 Silver and 1960 Gold medal and participated on more US national teams than any other player. Could have played for the Blackhawks but the pay was not enough to support his growing family. I know he was never a pro and he is from the US, but…. (Full disclosure I’m his son-in-law)
I wouldn't be surprised if there are several stories like that one from back then. Unfortunately we probably missed out on a lot of talent before the league started to be profitable for players, but we'll never know
